In 1970, a group of families at Haygood United Methodist Church (UMC) joined together and started Weekday Children’s Ministries (WCM) as a non-profit organization to address the childcare need in the Morningside and Virginia Highlands area. What started as a one room day care for 8 children has grown into the loving Preschool, Child Development Center, and afterschool Hut we know today, which serve over 275 children.  We will be turning 55 in 2024 and look forward to celebrating with you!

 

Haygood through the years:

 

• 1970: A small group of Haygood UMC members started the Day Care Center
• Fall of 1979: Haygood Preschool opened its doors
• 1990: Family Life Center completed
• 1992: Preschool Auction was added as a fundraiser
• 1998: Haygood Memorial UMC restructured Weekday Children’s Ministries to encompass the full-day Child Development Center and The Preschool.
• 2004: Haygood Weekday Children’s Ministries, Inc. is created
• 2019: Haygood WCM receives accreditation through Cognia (formerly AdvancED/SACS)
